Daylilies
are easy to grow. They will thrive in almost any soil type, have
no serious pests, and require very little care. Gophers don't
like them and deer prefer other plants. Soggy soils, occasional
trampling, and high salts near the coast are all taken in stride. Daylilies resist fire, drought, and erosion;and
are excellent plants for hillsides.
Daylilies come in a wide variety of
colors and sizes. From white, coral, red, pink, and lavender to
near black, daylilies cover every color but blue. Blooms range
from 1/2 to 12 inches in diameter, and can grow stalks from 10
inches to 6 feet tall. Leaves can be 1/8 inch to 3 inches wide,
and 3 inches to 3 feet long. Foliage can be soft and grassy, spiky,
or boldly dramatic, and can range from light apple green to dark,
blue green.
Daylilies
can bloom up to 9 months per year. While the average unnamed daylily
bloom 45 days per year, we sell varieties that have bloomed over
275 days for us. By combining early and late blooming varieties
you can expect bloom the entire growing season.
